Coaching

Coaching is a systematic process that facilitates the learning and development of an individual or team to assist them in achieving their goals and aspirations. It involves discovery, challenge, action and growth.

Coaching is about helping individuals to discover more about themselves, their work performance and their relationships with others in order for them to make their own decisions as to the best way forward.

It is about helping them to believe in their potential and providing them with the necessary stimulation, encouragement and support.

Through confidential discussion and reflection in a relaxed, safe atmosphere we help to:

  • Identify issues to work on
  • Establish priorities
  • Set goals
  • Decide how best to achieve those goals
  • Recognise, acknowledge and celebrate progress and success

We offer face-to-face and telephone coaching for private and corporate individuals. We also offer face-to-face coaching for organisational teams.

Most of our clients opt for a tailored programme but we are also able to offer one off sessions or coaching packages to suit all needs.

When could I use it?

Coaching can play a major role in many different situations but can be particularly beneficial when you are new to an organisation or have just received promotion to a more senior role.

It can also help you to:

  • Develop specific skill areas
  • Overcome situations which you find particularly difficult
  • Develop your leadership potential
  • Manage planned, or not so planned, personal or organisational change.

How does it work?

Our coaching programmes follow a process of raising awareness, setting goals, exploring options and planning actions.

This is achieved through informal dialogue, facilitative questioning, constructive and objective feedback, challenge and the building of an open, honest, trusting relationship.

Where appropriate, relevant models and tools are used to identify key factors such as learning style, management style, emotional intelligence, competencies, motivators and so on.

How can it help me?

Working with a coach on areas of specific importance to you and your organisation can bring the following benefits:

  • A greater understanding of work issues and how to manage them
  • Greater self-awareness - what you want, where you want to go and how you'll get there
  • Greater personal satisfaction
  • Significant personal development
  • Enhanced performance
  • Achievement of goals
  • Improved leadership skills
  • More effective interpersonal skills
  • Reduced stress levels
  • Being better equipped to manage change

What happens during a coaching session?

At the initial session we will spend time on introductions, administration, scene setting and beginning the coaching process.

After that each coaching session is an individual experience, depending on your needs and the issues raised, rather than a set plan. However there will be aspects that are familiar to most sessions such as:

  • Setting goals (for the session and the issue)
  • Reflecting on progress made since the last session
  • Exploring feelings regarding the issue/s being worked on
  • Discussing options
  • Deciding a way forward
  • Arranging the next coaching session

What sort of things can I work on with a coach?

Clients usually come for coaching because they want to change some aspect of their behaviour, learn new skills, improve their performance, develop their leadership potential or improve their work/life balance.

Who an be coached?

Coaching can be used for individuals and teams who are willing to be coached and want to improve and learn.

It will be more successful if these parties are motivated to change, open to receiving feedback and have an intrinsic desire to grow and develop.

Who can coach?

An ideal coach:

  • Is qualified to coach, through recognised training and/or quality experience
  • Has relevant coaching and business experience
  • Has a positive track record
  • Is flexible in their approach
  • Uses models, techniques and frameworks from a wide range of theoretical backgrounds
  • Belongs to a recognised professional body
  • Follows ethical guidelines and standards
  • Receives suitable supervision
  • Possess professional indemnity insurance

Where does it take place?

Face-to-face coaching is usually delivered at the client’s place of work as long as there is a suitable quiet room that we can use and not be disturbed. However, third party venues can be arranged.

Telephone coaching can take place when you are in the office, at home or at another suitable location. Calls can be made via landline or Skype.

How long do coaching sessions last for?

Face-to-face sessions usually last for about two hours and telephone sessions for approximately one hour. However, timings are agreed to suit each individual’s circumstances and needs.

How often do coaching sessions occur?

As a general rule monthly sessions help to keep progress on track without eating too much into work time itself, but sometimes it is beneficial to have more frequent sessions at the beginning of a programme. An appropriate schedule will be agreed during the first session to suit all parties and the issues involved.

The coaching period is negotiable depending on the topics being worked on and the progress being made. A coaching period of three to six months is average.
